What is NetSuite WMS and how does it differ from standard NetSuite inventory?
NetSuite WMS (Warehouse Management System) extends NetSuite's built-in inventory management with a full set of warehouse-floor capabilities: mobile-driven receiving, directed putaway, wave-based order picking, bin replenishment, and real-time inventory tracking. While standard NetSuite manages items and transactions, NetSuite WMS adds the mobile workflows, pick strategies, and bin logic needed to run a modern warehouse efficiently. It requires the Advanced Inventory Management feature and is delivered via the Oracle NetSuite WMS SuiteApp.
What SuiteApps do I need to install for NetSuite WMS?
You need two SuiteApps installed in a specific order: first the SCM Mobile SuiteApp (bundle 590761), which provides the mobile device application for your warehouse floor, and then the Oracle NetSuite WMS SuiteApp (bundle 590660), which contains the business logic. After installation, you must also enable the Warehouse Management feature and activate the Enable Warehouse Management system rule. Can NetSuite WMS work without bins?
Yes. NetSuite WMS supports both bin-managed and non-bin warehouse locations. When you configure a location with the "Use Bins" box cleared, NetSuite WMS processes all orders in a non-bin flow — wave transactions won't display recommended bins, and the picking process won't include bin selection. You can configure items and locations independently, and the system respects the location-level setting for WMS flow determination.
What is Smart Count and how does it relate to NetSuite WMS?
Smart Count is a separate NetSuite SuiteApp that enables real-time cycle counting during business hours — without stopping warehouse operations. It works alongside NetSuite WMS and uses the SCM Mobile app to perform directed counts (from a task list) and spot counts (ad hoc). Smart Count supports bins, units of measure, inventory status, serialized items, lot-numbered items, and GS1 barcode scanning (when WMS is enabled). Inventory managers can review, approve, reject, or assign recounts from a centralized Count Review dashboard.
